We Are The Mighty Pencil
As an illustrator I have always been lucky to be part of a good, supportive community. At the same time, I have frequently crossed paths with the businesses out there whose secondary aim is to help you, usually to ‘promote’ you, however their primary aim is inevitably to make their own money. It’s these two areas of the industry that last year led me to forming The Mighty Pencil. I was considering why the good, supportive, community illustrators can’t simply help eachother to do their own promotion? Why can’t illustrators club together and do their own amazing marketing, without lining another’s pockets, at a minimal cost to themselves, bringing together eachother’s experiences, skills, contacts and knowledge? That’s what The Mighty Pencil is all about.
In 18 months The Mighty Pencil has published it’s first promotional book, gained a good following on Twitter and filled a website with wonderful illustration work. The key thing is that all this has been done solely by illustrators themselves and it has all produced results, we have shown our work to potential clients and we have been commissioned, job done. In the next year or so we will have our second book and a multitude of new, creative and super exciting promotional projects.
Since it’s creation we have kept the identity of those behind it a secret, but have decided now to come clean and say who we are. There are 60 amazing Mighty Pencillers in total, but a small number have especially given their time and skills to make it all happen.
We are the Mighty Pencil…
Steven Bonner - Steven is already known to have designed The Mighty Pencil Book, but he also conceived it and managed everyone’s work for it.
Laura Barnard - Laura worked closely with Steven and RIPE Digital to manage the production of the book and it’s packaging, along with it’s finances.
Stephen Chan - Stephen designed The Mighty Pencil logo.
Abi Daker - Abi (and also Laura) take care of The Mighty Pencil on Twitter, promoting the amazing work of all our Mighty Pencillers.
